On 26th January, Sport England revealed a comprehensive ten-year strategy to support the future of physical activity in the country.
Reflecting on the announcement, Lisa Wainwright, CEO of Sport and Recreation Alliance said: “We applaud the ambition and courage of Sport England in taking the step of announcing a 10-year strategy. This highlights the amount of work that we all face to make sure that every person, from every community has the opportunity to benefit from being physically active.
“Tim Hollingsworth and his team have involved the sector every step of the way during the consultation phase and this is reflected in the honest, insightful and collaborative vision that has been outlined.
“The five big themes raised show the requirement that exists for sport to adapt and serve as a way to improve the health and wellbeing of the nation.
“This current pandemic however, has also reflected the fragility of the sector and we need to make sure that we focus on the sustainability and long-term future of organisations that deliver sport and recreation, so that this 10-year strategy can be delivered.”
