A January Update

This short news update lays out the 2022 plans the team has.

We wanted to kick start the year by getting you all up to speed with what the team are doing to make 2022 our biggest year yet. In the article below, you’ll find out just some of the amazing work the Get Yourself Active team has on for January!

Embedding co-production across the sports sector

Our fantastic team is offering free co-production training in collaboration with other Disabled People’s User Led organisations (DPULO’s). In Bristol, we are really excited to be working with a local DPULO – WECIL – to deliver this training to the Bristol Ignite network.

Co-produced services work better because they make the most of the shared expertise of the professionals who work there and the people who have experience of using them. Working in a partnership like this can only be a driver of positive change!

The training will help organisations gain confidence to co-produce with Disabled people, which will help improve opportunities and reduce barriers to physical activity.

This work will improve the way the sport and physical activity sector works in partnership with Disabled people in the design and delivery of physical activity. Ensuring Disabled people have a say in the way that physical activity is provided and create more opportunities for Disabled people to be active in a way that is right for them.

Work never stops on the Together fund

We’ve been busy on the Together Fund front, processing many applications on either side of the Christmas and new year break. We are still accepting applications for the Fund (formerly the Tackling Inequalities Fund) and are particularly keen to hear from Disabled Peoples User Led Organisations (DPULOs) that support culturally diverse communities.

If your organisation would like to apply for funding, which is up to £10,000 for User-Led Organisations and up to £3,000 for Small/Micro Community-based Organisations. Please contact tacklinginequalities@disabilityrightsuk.org for further details and an application form. You can also find out more in our Together Fund explained piece here.

Your stories

As we move into the new year, we want to hear from you! We’d love for you to share your experiences of getting active in a way that’s right for them. Your thoughts on the latest news or what sport and physical activity mean to you.

We want to share your powerful stories online to help raise awareness of the different ways of getting active. And help other Disabled people feel confident and empowered to take the first steps to a more active life.

Take a video or a photo, send an audio file, or write it down – share your story in your own way. We also want to hear from you if you help get Dsabled people active.

The team wishes you a wonderful start to the year, and we can’t wait to hear your story.
