The Get Yourself Active Local project in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin is a collaborative initiative led by Disability Rights UK and Energize STW. It aims to increase the number of Disabled people and those with long-term health conditions to be physically active in ways that suit them.
Despite growing evidence that movement supports wellbeing, Disabled people are twice as likely to be inactive compared to non-disabled people. This project is working to close that gap by embedding physical activity into everyday life, services, and decision-making across the region.
What We’re Doing
Through a joined-up, holistic approach, we’re bringing together key partners—from people with lived experience and councils, to health and social care professionals, and local activity providers—to co-design, deliver and support sustainable opportunities to be active.
We’re focusing on three key areas:
Our Vision
A community where Disabled people and those with long-term health conditions are empowered to lead active lives on their own terms—and where health, care, and sport systems work together to support this goal.
