Get Yourself Active Social Care Activity Pack: refreshed for 2026

Five years after it was first launched in 2021, we’re pleased to re-launch a refreshed version of the Get Yourself Active Social Care Activity Pack.

The original pack was developed during the coronavirus pandemic, when opportunities to be active were restricted for many people. Five years on, the message at the heart of the pack remains just as important: moving more can support our physical and mental health and wellbeing, and help people make positive changes in their everyday lives.

The Social Care Activity Pack was created to help people working in social care support more Disabled people to be active. It is designed primarily for carers, support workers and personal assistants, but can also be useful for family members and others supporting Disabled people and people with long-term health conditions.

People working in social care play an important role in supporting Disabled people to explore opportunities to be active. Being active does not have to mean going to the gym or taking part in organised sport. It can include everyday movement such as walking or wheeling into town, gardening, bowling or dancing at home. What matters most is finding ways to move that are enjoyable, work for the individual and can fit into everyday life.

The pack provides practical information, ideas and tools to help social care staff feel more confident about supporting physical activity. It includes guidance on:

  • understanding physical activity and why it matters
  • recognising and working with the barriers Disabled people can experience
  • having positive conversations about getting active
  • personalising support around the individual
  • setting goals and making plans
  • finding different ways to build more movement into everyday life

It also includes interactive worksheets that can be used by social care staff alongside the people they support. These are designed to help start conversations, explore what matters to an individual, identify barriers and think about achievable steps towards becoming more active.

For the 2026 re-launch, we have refreshed key information and statistics throughout the pack to make sure the resource remains current, while retaining the practical advice, activities and tools that made the original pack useful.

Whether you have used the Social Care Activity Pack before or are discovering it for the first time, we hope the refreshed version gives you useful ideas, increased confidence and practical tools to help the people you support move more in ways that work for them.
